Zeke Mannners was one of the foundation members of the original Beverly Hillbillies in 1928. He recorded with partner Elton Britt for the Varsity label and for the Supertone transcription label in the latter part of the 1930s. In 1942, he signed up with RCA and recorded for Bluebird, from 1945 to ca. 1950 for Victor. After that he recorded for a short time for Capitol Records and in 1959, he backed Elton Britt up on his "Wandering Cowboy" album for ABC. The items on this album were made from 1942 to 1949 and include his two biggest chart successes of 1946, "Sue City Sue" and "Inflation". Vocalists in this CD: yodeling Curly Gribbs, Ez, Gabe, Zeke and The Singing Lariateers. Chet Atkins is guitarist on several tracks, Vaughn Horton steel guitarist on 1 track. Other instruments used in different combinations: Fiddle, accordion (played by Zeke), trumpet, clarinet, piano and drums. Most musicians seem to be top RCA studio musicians who sound great. This is another must for your historical country music collection! More about Zeke here: |
