This popular gospel group of the 1940s and 1950s were headquarted in the area around Charlotte, North Carolina until they were eventually discovered by Art Satherly in 1946. This CD covers most of their earliest recordings for Columbia (1946 to 1950) before they changed to RCA for whom they recorded until 1959. The group consists of "Pa" Jesse, "Ma" Lydia, daughter Betty, and the three sons Kenneth, Bob & Jim. "Pa" plays guitar and Larry Walker piano. The later recordings also feature Nat Richardson <steel guitar>, Arthur "Guitar Boogie" Smith <fiddle>, Ray Smith and Roy Horton. |
