Carson was nicknamed "Granddaddy Of The Hillbillies". Since he started recording in 1924 this name sounds suitable. He has written and also recorded around 300 songs - in the 20s and 30s bascially duet and trio numbers and with Vernon Dalhart, Frank Luther and others. Some 8 of such samples are included in this akbum. The rest is solo numbers. This CD spans the period 1928 to 1951. His war numbers, which he also wrote, are rather black humor numbers, but might be of historical interest. This album is a must for collectors who want to complete their list of the all-time major artists and it is a nice companion piece to Cattle LP 107 "The Kansas Jayhawk", too. More information at
