Ray Smith is rather an unknown today, but the reason is that he ceased making records in the mid 50s. He started his career on the National label in 1946 with the Pine Toppers (sometimes with Vaughn Horton on steel guitar) and then changed to Continental, London, Columbia and eventually Coral. His deep, powerful voice is certainly magnificent to many hard country fans. He has basically been known in the eastern part of the USA and Canada. Such an album was long overdue.
