Tennessean Milton Estes was an early star of the Grand Ole Opry when he started there back in 1937 as a member of Pee Wee King's Golden West Cowboys. He passed away at the early age of 49 in 1963. This is the complete material of the era when he was still active from 1946 until 1950. He started out on the Bullet label and then changed to various major labels. His last item was recorded ca. 1954 for the Donna label - a square dance single. It's not certain which musicians were employed at the various session. His band front man, however, was Jimmy Selph. The instrumentation is great and there is a great variety like steel guitar, accordion, banjo, Dobro, guitar, bass and fiddle. Milton also has a super country voice and is sometimes assisted by his boys also. |
