CD 9057 Dusty Owens - Early Star Of The Wheeling Jamboree = (16 tracks) F HELLO OPERATOR/HEY HONEY/CURE THAT SHYNESS/A PLACE FOR HOMELESS HEARTS/OUR LOVE AFFAIR/FORGET MY BROKEN HEART/WHO DO YOU THINK THEY WOULD BLAME?/WOULDN'T YOU?/GIVE ME A LITTLE CHANCE/ONCE MORE duet with Donna Darlene>/IT'S GOODBYE AND SO LONG TO YOU <duet with Donna Darlene>/THE LIFE YOU WANT TO LIVE/SOMEWHERE SHE'S WAITING/JUST CALL ON ME/A LOVE THAT ONCE WAS MINE/THEY DIDN'T KNOW THE DIFFERENCE (But I Did). This album contains Dusty Owens’ complete previously issued material of the 1950s. With a powerful Hillbilly voice in the great style of the post Hank Williams era, Dusty sings with all of his heart and soul mostly self-penned love ballads. “Once More” was his most successful work as a songwriter and was recorded by many others including such icons as Roy Acuff, The Osborne Brothers, George Jones and Hank Locklin, just to name a few. Not only the original Drifting Cowboys played on one of the recording sessions, he also picked such greats as Jack Shook (guitar), Tommy Vaden (fiddle), Walter Haines (steel guitar) for a musical background. Furthermore, he traveled a lot and recorded with his own band, The Rodeo Boys, which included Buddy Spicher (fiddle), Roger Blevins (steel) and others for his own Admiral label. One of the tracks, “Hey Honey,” was written by Doug Kershaw of Rusty & Doug fame and is influenced by the Rockabilly style of that era. It’s a mystery why Dusty Owens didn’t make it big in the record business. Perhaps his biggest mistake was turning down an offer from the Grand Ole Opry becoming one of their regular members in the mid 1950s. However, this album is must for every hard country fan of the 1950s sound. |
