The late Jerry Smith was Iowa's most popular Country & Western artist from the late 1930's to the late 1950's. Most of the tracks have steelguitar and fiddle accompaniment. About half of the tracks were recorded in the forties and about the other half in the fifties. Buddy Emmons plays the steelguitar on 4 of the late 1950's tracks which were recorded in a great honky tonk country style. They sound totally different compared to the early cowboy yodel songs.
